Before looking forward to 2015 let’s have a quick look back at December 2014. The Christmas for Children project headed by Karen Bouma and Suzie Brand filled our church basement with Christmas cheer. Thank you to them for lending their talents to the organization of that big citywide project. Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way. The Christmas Eve offering was for Church World Service tools and blankets.

Happy 2015! A new year of missions is ahead of us! Here are the plans for January. We will have a collection basket at the back of the church for contributions for UMCOR for the Ebola work they (we) are doing. Also the Bishop has asked for a $2 per member contribution for Emma Norton in 2015 (more about that later).

I just finished reading a book called THE 13TH GIFT by Joanne Huist Smith. It isn’t a religious book but it talked about giving. “…one of the greatest gifts we all possess is the ability to give. Wealth isn’t a prerequisite; compassion and a kind heart are all you need.”

And to end with a prayer from the UPPER ROOM Dec. 17, 2014 “Dear God, May we never grow weary in showing your love to others through our words and deeds.” Amen
